Celtic Fringe

Di Reed, the artist and writer behind Celtic Fringe, began painting on local stones a few years ago. Her range includes Celtic knots and animals,  produced on rocks, slate and reclaimed wood.  Di paints personalised signs to order, and produces sets of Viking runes for divination.  She has also published three novels, only available from The Bazaar - Celtic Fringe, Royal MacNab (the first two books of The Hebridean series) and a collection of short stories, The Big Book of Death, Sex and Chocolate.

What is your product?
Painted stones, slates and reclaimed wood, sets of runes and original novels. I also paint room and house signs mostly on an individual commission basis.

Where does inspiration for you product come from?
I've been collecting and creating images that work well on my chosen media. My inspiration comes from the different shapes and colours of the materials I use - getting the right image to fit the right rock or piece of slate.

Do you have any tips for anyone interested in making/selling their own products?
Make sure you enjoy what you make, and be realistic about what you can charge for it. Pay particular attention to finishing touches, and display it attractively.

Where do you source your materials?
Mostly the beaches, although now and again I find pieces on the moors. Depending on the types of rocks I'm looking for, I know which beaches to go to.
